Компания AMD представила широкой публике новую видеокарту – Radeon HD 7970, которая по словам производителя, на данный момент является самым быстрым графическим ускорителем с одним процессором. Устройство построено на совершенно новой платформе Graphics Core Next Architecture, видео-процессор, созданный по 28 Нм технологии (более 4 миллиардов транзисторов, 2048 потоковых процессоров и 128 текстурных блоков), работает на частоте 925 Мгц, частота памяти типа GDDR5 составляет 1375 Мгц, а объем равняется 3 Гб. Максимальная производительность при расчётах с одинарной точностью составляет 3,79 терафлопса, с двойной точностью – 947 гигафлопсов.
Видеокарта полностью поддерживает DirectX 11, PCI Express 3.0, CrossFire, Eyefinity 2.0 – фирменную технологию для подключения до 6 экранов высокого разрешения, а также реализующую стерео-изображение, ZeroCore Power для оптимизации потребления питания, снижающая расход электроэнергии при простое адаптера и другие. Для подключения мониторов, телевизоров и проекторов предусмотрены разъёмы DVI, HDMI, имеется сразу два интерфейса Mini DisplayPort 1.2. Продажи Radeon HD 7970 стартуют уже 9 января следующего года, рекомендуемая цена составляет 550 долларов США.
